Birthday fit for TWO Kings!!

Last evening Pat and I took Lou and Norm out for their August birthdays to Hickory Park (Yum) in Ames! We had a wonderful dinner and a good time catching up with each other. After our delicious main course the guys were treated to a "Happy Birthday" song, sung by the Hickory Park employees plus they each received an ice cream sundae!

The Corn Dog Chomp at the Iowa State Fair!

Today (Thursday Aug. 7th) the Iowa State Fair opened and radio hosts on WHO radio, Van and Bonnie, decided to hold a "Corn Dog Chomp" on opening day in hopes of setting a record of the most people biting into a corn dog at the same time! Well, the fair gave free admission from 5:00 a.m to 8:30 a.m. this morning. (We were there at 6:15!) By 8:30 there were 10,000 people in the grandstand and over 5,000 outside unable to get in. The concessionaires prepared 8,400 corn dogs. At 8:45 everyone with a corn dog took the "chomp"! To say the least I think it was a GREAT success. One of the highlights was hearing the interview with Astronaut Peggy Whitson (an Iowa native) Lots of fun! We then spent an additional few hours enjoying the rest of the day at the Fair.

August is here already!

We can't believe that August has arrived already which means the Iowa State Fair is this week already, then the three (3) Luiken brothers birthdays later in the month. We have been so pleased this summer with how our yard and Norm's garden is producing. Guess it is due to the complete fenced yard which seems to be keeping the deer out! YEA!!! Has taken some doing but we think we have succeeded. We also have a new front sidewalk that Norm has just completed -- brick this time.
